LEGO released a really nice wave of LEGO Friends sets at the beginning of January that I thought are worth to take a closer look. LEGO Friends has been a very popular theme both with the target audience of little girls, and also adult LEGO fans who appreciate the unique colors and never-before-seen minifigure accessories for their own LEGO creations. The color-scheme of this wave of LEGO Friends sets is lavender, dark-pink and dark-blue with a dash of light-pink, light-blue and white sprinkled in the mix – a beautiful combination for sure.

Review: 41095 Emma’s House – Heartlaketimes

The set box carries the familiar purple flanges on the sides and ribbon wave across the top, indicating that this set belong to the base theme and not a sub-theme. We also get to see Emma’s mum, Charlotte, and her dad, Luis. I was surprised how big this box was, but it wasn’t filled with air! We’ll get to that shortly.

The back of the box shows us what we can expect to find in the box, highlighting the playing features and loads of accessories. The left hand shows the modular nature of the building, meaning you can arrange it any way you like!

The front covers of the three booklets have the same main image as the set box, with the inset showing the interior and the three individual mini-doll images being absent. The sticker sheet is the type with the metallic sheen and appears to have a mirror sticker on it. It may just be my butter fingers, but I sometimes find these types of stickers harder to peel off.

Each instruction booklet has a different back cover. The back of the instruction booklet 1 has an exceptionally cute looking Emma letting us know how we could win a free set.

…Fantastic Playset!…

I am so impressed with Lego. Emma’s house is simply amazing. This was a Christmas gift for my 5 year old daughter (I have twins – a girl and a boy). I bought it at a discounted price on Cyber Monday. I worried a bit about the number of pieces and whether it would be headache to put together and whether it would stay together for play. We have one other Lego set – a jungle adventure bridge – but nothing near this number of pieces. We also had a Lego advent calendar this year (so now the Christmas tree and gifts and snowman can be incorporated into Emma’s world at the holidays and my twins currently have Emma ice skating and drinking hot chocolate on the rink that was part of the box from the advent calendar).

I had no reason to worry. The bags are all numbered and the booklets take you step by step and are very clear. My daughter got my assistance putting it together (all the while, I called into my husband – oh my gosh, the tub has bubble bath! the refrigerator opens and has cartons of milk and orange juice! the flat screen tv pivots, there is a sliding glass door on the balcony! she has a pet parrot in a cage! there is a frog in a pond! there is a firepit with barbecued chicken!). She loves to build with the Lego Classic (yellow box) sets that include the booklets – she is familiar with finding the pieces and following the steps and gets a real sense of accomplishment when she has completed a creation. She did very well with this set. She would need my help with slightly trickier things for young hands – clicking the pieces into place that held the sliding door on track.

Once assembled, the pieces stay together very well for play – and play by 5 year olds. (This Christmas, my son received Mega Bloks Minion Castle, which by comparison, had no numbered bags, took ages to assemble, had a mistake in the directions and is constantly falling apart in one tower). My kids are enchanted (not just my daughter, for whom it was purchased). And the set is not riddled with millions of tiny stickers to apply (there is a small set of stickers. the instructions are clear about where they go).

The set comes with a mom (Charlotte), dad (Luis) and girl (Emma). There are dishes for kitchen table, a frying pan and spatula for the stove and drawer that opens and stores utensils. Emma has a garden with carrots growing. She has a front garden where she can paint. There are bottles of paint and a paintbrush! She also has a bike. She has a vanity with a hairbrush and lipstick. They have played with this for hours. I highly recommend this set.

…Great learning tool, and our daughter loves it…

I gave this to my six-year old daughter, and a few months later she received a different Lego Friends set. It was eye-opening to see her development as she got a little bit older and a lot more experienced doing Legos. This was her first “sophisticated” Lego kit … she had previously played with all the various Lego blocks just like all kids do, but she had never done a “kit”. As this was her first, I worked with her side by side, mostly letting her take lead, but occasionally helping out as necessary. By the time she did her second Lego Friends kit a couple months later (which was actually marked for ages starting one year older than this one) she was completely good to go on her own.

As a parent, it really makes you smile to see your child develop so much in such a short time. This kit helps your child to learn to follow instructions, solve problems, watch for detail, and perform a bit of fine motor skill manipulation …what’s not to like?

When looking at the front of the box, you are a little overwhelmed by all that’s going on. We can see some buildings in the back, many small elements in front. But wait, there is also a cool looking car and four minidolls! Even when holding the box in your hands (it is almost as big as a Lego Creator Expert set, you know, modular buildings and such) it is hard to settle on one specific detail!

On the back, the image of the building modules side by side without the other elements suddenly makes the set look a lot smaller. And the small side images show only a fraction of what you can do with this toy. I think the idea here is to get our attention but still keep room for suspense and fun surprises while building the set. There would be no way to show all the details anyway. …A Toy to Pass Down, it is so good…

Our daughter LOVES Lego Friends. The Mall we purchased for Christmas and it was a huge hit. I am looking at it right now on her playroom floor. She has made a whole village of Lego Friends. The initial construction is so much fun to watch. She takes it very seriously as she puts together this town of amazing colors and buildings. Now that it is all together, she arranges the town day to day.

I just try to avoid the town when I vacuum (hah). Our daughter gets such joy out of these toys. She loves construction, then playing with the characters when it is all done. We make sure to keep the instructions along with placing the pieces of each set in a bag when she wants to store them. If you find that you have a piece missing (that happens from time to time), you can just get on line and Lego will send out that piece for free. They are easy to work with. Great toy that we plan to keep for her kids someday!

My daughter received the Lego Friends Pop Star Show Stage for Christmas this year, and it’s easily one of her favorite presents received. The show stage set includes two Lego Friend Minifigures, multiple moving parts, and two tiny Lego instruments. The set was easy enough for her to build by herself and has great “play again value” once built. There is a small knob on the right end of the completed stage that you can turn to make the four panels on the stage turn.

There’s a lot of detail that went into this stage set including the tiny stars, the detailing on the minifigure’s dresses, and even the sparkly stick decals for the turning panel. The daughter really enjoyed building this set, and I like the fact that a turning mechanism was included – it’s really quite clever how it works, and it’s great to see a little engineering going on with this super girly looking set.

When my 9yo received this for Christmas, I’ll admit to being torn. Sure it is a glitzy-glammy-girly set, but 700 pieces of Lego building is hard for a guy of my generation to ignore.

Now I have built innumerable sets over the years, from my 80’s castle and space sets to last year’s Lego Louvre, and this is easily one of the most impressive. The pieces and mechanism used to allow the bus to slide open and closed while retaining its impeccable attention are impressive, and the use of some core pieces to create the lavatory and bed are quite clever.

The set comes in four numbered bags so you don’t have to fish through all the pieces at once while trying to assemble it. The instructions are in two parts and are very easy to follow (are you watching, Mega Bloks?). The stickers are printed on a reflective foil-like sticker paper, so putting them on straight was a better parent project, but otherwise my 9yo had no problem piecing this together with minimal assistance.

Beyond being an amazing set in its own right, the tour bus is made almost entirely of core Lego bricks (there are three specialty pieces for the bed and three slide rails along the top that are unique), which means it’s a great addition to a collection since the pieces can easily be used and blended with other Legos.

A couple of years ago, we had 3061 City Park Café and 41006 Downtown Bakery. Now, we have Heartlake Cupcake Café. Is this a retread of old sets, or does it combine the best of the two?

The box art shows Stephanie and Naomi with the outside and inside on a lovely spring day complete with cherry blossoms. It appears like Naomi is a worker in the café. The back of the box shows various mini scenes of the set.

Inside the box are three numbered bags, two instructions booklets, a small sheet of stickers and two pale blue base plates. Stephanie comes dressed perfectly for that lovely spring day, with a lavender colored shirt and a top decorated with stars. I was originally leery of the Lego Friends brand – it annoyed me that the Legos I’d grown up with got this girly gloss on them in order to be marketed better. Now that I have girls of my own though, I’ve found the toy is still the same under all that pink, and my girls love them.

We own quite a few sets of the Lego Friends now, and I must say that the ‘shop’ sets get the most play. The shop wall pieces work well for future building projects – some sets have lots of little pieces that don’t play well with other sets. Shop sets recycle well into house walls, castle walls, etc. And the girls love the cupcake concept (which can be done with other pieces from other sets). Plus there are two minifigs and a Vespa. Worth it for the vespa alone, really.

…A Big and Impressive LEGO Friends Luxury Boat!…

Our daughter loves LEGO Friends. She first saw them at a friends house and was instantly obsessed with them. We purchased the “Olivia’s Tree House” Set for her for Christmas and it was a big hit. Since then, we have purchased several additional sets for her collection.

The LEGO Friends Dolphin Cruiser Play Set comes with a big 612 pieces. It includes two girl characters (Mia and Maya) and one boy character (Andrew). It comes with everything you could imagine for a boat trip. It has large yacht type boat that has a top that lifts off so you can play with your characters in the inside living areas (living room with an L-shaped couch, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with two beds). The boat has several features like deck chairs, a water slide, a captains area on the top for driving the boat and a wave runner with a ski rope and skis for the characters to use. It also comes with lots of little accessories for drinks and snacks, music equipment, two dolphins and some fish to feed to them. It is a really nice and big set with a lot of playability and plenty of pieces to let your child’s imagination run wild. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow and the recommended age is 7-12 because it is such a large set, but a 6 year old will only need minimal help with it.

One point of caution, the MSRP on the LEGO web site for this set is $69.99. If a set isn’t Retired, you shouldn’t have to pay much more than the MSRP. That is the going rate from WalMart/Target/LEGO and usually when Amazon is the seller. Some secondary Amazon retailers sell the Friends sets for much more so be careful if the seller isn’t Amazon, especially around the holidays when Amazon sometimes sells out. Make sure to shop around. We picked it up when the price dropped to $50.99 on Amazon. You can check the Amazon price history and set price drop alerts on camelcamelcamel dot com.

Long story short, this is a huge and fun set that will be a great addition to your LEGO Friends collection. It looks really impressive when it is built and it is designed really well to allow for a lot of pretend play. While this is one of the more expensive LEGO Friends sets, the 11 cent per piece price is right in-line with the average for other multi-character sets. Highly Recommended!

We don’t really have much from the Pop Star line, but we were super excited to finally get a LEGO Friends house set filled with so many wonderful details, and for less money than the other Friends homes, like Emma’s House or Olivia’s House from a few years back. Plus this set stands apart as something super creative and interesting. It has wonderful colors, charm, and tons of little details and accessories! We might be thinking about getting more Pop Star sets after being so impressed with this one.

Livi’s Pop Star House is made up of 597 pieces, but a lot of that piece count goes just to the little accessories themselves, (like the adorably cute little sushi pieces). The instructions are split into 3 manuals, and they’re on big paper so it’s real easy to follow. It took my daughter about three hours to completely build the set, and she only needed help with attaching the security camera to a ball joint at one point. I’m sure the set could be assembled more quickly than that, but she likes to take her time and play with things as she builds. And there is a lot to play with in this set.

The sets that I love the most from Lego Friends so far are the houses – they’re like little dollhouses to play in!

The newest release for January 2016 Lego Friends is Livi’s Pop Star House 41135, and it’s a super modern build with heaps of glass and gold – just right for a popstar! The set comes with minidolls Livi, Andrea, Cookie the dog and a fabulous glass swimming pool. There are also lots of cooking features because it certainly seems that Livi loves to cook – there are cupcakes and sushi and icecreams and mocktails and so many more delicious things. There’s an uber modern dressing room cupboard with places to put all the important things like Livi’s rollerskates, shoes and skirts. And you must check out the fireplace, it’s a bit fancy too.

The design features are becoming more and more clever with each new Lego Friends release – a lot of the floors and furniture are easily put in and out of place to allow access to all the areas... Read more here

…Great Set With Really Terrific Accessories…

We bought it when it first came out at full price and it is still a good value. The accessory pieces that come with this are adorable. It comes with sushi – which are the same size as the chocolate chip cookies that come with other sets. The dog has musical notes as her spots and the girls can change their skirts. We love Livi’s pink hair and all of the kitchen accessories – it even comes with a hand mixer. I have two sons and we play with this set everyday. We actually usually play with regular Lego MiniFigures with the Lego Friends sets since we like the regular minifigs more. We have a Bruce Wayne minifig that lives in this house as the mayor of our “Lego City.” This set comes with some very cool pieces and has a Beverly Hills quality to the house – gold toilet seat. I would recommend this set as a cute house that comes with really neat pieces to add to your collection. Happy Building – for boys or girls (or mommies). 🙂

When I was asked which sets I was looking forward to and would like to review out of the summer wave, my immediate answer was 41101 Heartlake Grand Hotel, which brings together my love of the Friends theme and detailed LEGO buildings. It is the largest set ever in the Friends range, coming in at an RRP of £99.99 and a piece count of 1552.

But is it worthy of the moniker “grand”? Read on to find out… The box art is the usual depiction of the finished model, but as well as highlighting some of the details of the set, the back of the box reveals a cool play function that is not obvious from the front – the tower on the side of the model houses a lift (elevator) that can be raised and lowered. …Lego has hit a Home Run with this set!…

I bought this set for my 10 year old daughter’s birthday. When I received it from Amazon I was surprised at how big and heavy the box was. This is quite a big set for $120. When my daughter opened it she immediately wanted to start building it! There are too many accessories to list and that is what makes this set so great. You can get an idea of what comes with the set from the pictures on Amazon, however the set “in real life” is huge… lots of playability, lots if unique pieces and great attention to detail. Also, I believe other reviews have probably covered more details about the set… all I know is that we have MANY Lego sets “Friends” theme and others and this is the only one that she dedicated a whole day to putting together… non stop. The set is so big it would probably take me a whole day to put it together… :). Lego has done it again.

LEGO released a really nice wave of LEGO Friends sets at the beginning of January that I thought are worth to take a closer look. LEGO Friends has been a very popular theme both with the target audience of little girls, and also adult LEGO fans who appreciate the unique colors and never-before-seen minifigure accessories for their own LEGO creations. 41094 Heartlake Lighthouse Reviews – Eurobricks

The front of the box is a standard Friends design, with curved sides of the box. The top right corner has a cartoon picture of the five main Friends characters, while at the bottom right there’s a picture of the two Friends, Stephanie and Kate, included in this set. The box art is lovely, and I like the balloon in the background. In the bottom left corner, there’s a small picture of the back of the lighthouse, which I find a bit redundant. It’s too small to see the details, and as most of them are shown on the back, this picture could be omitted from the box art.

The back of the box is nicely showing all the wonderful details, and is actually very appealing. Almost half of the box is covered with small windows showing different details and play features of the set. Although these little windows reveal much of the details of the set, and take away the element of surprise, I find them really useful in presenting the set.

My favourite feature window on the back of the box is the one showing set’s accessories. I admit I was simply captivated by all the ice-cream flavours available in the ice-cream shop. In addition, there’s a new hair pin in the shape of a flower, and a coin of 5 FMU (Friends Monetary Unit). The sides of the box are following the standard box design. …Cute Setup! Lots of Details!…

I like the versatility of this set. It’s both a living space in the top floor and business with the ice cream parlor down below. The lighthouse is cool with it’s secret room. It even has rocks and bubbles and waves in the water. When building the base there were so many layers and details. It was fun to see it come together. Even the cones and ice cream are a hoot. So cute and many combinations. The lighthouse is very magestic looking, especially the top of it. The dock is fun as you can have the little boat pull itself in for a treat. This would be a great set to custom and rebuild, or even for an adult to keep displayed. This is one of the best Friends sets I bought. The roof itself is engineered perfectly with the pieces interlocking. Great set! I like it more than some of the bigger sets. And the little seal pup it comes with is adorable!
